Aid / development

“Tom is one of a kind. He’s got a wonderful photographic eye and an uncanny knack for capturing people as they really are – happy, struggling, hopeful, proud, shy, complex… human. He has a great amount of experience working in the developing world and it shows. Tom moves quietly and respectfully through village scenes, with an ability to quickly build trust and willingness to participate. In addition to the top-notch images, Tom is also a journalist who can simultaneously gather extended captions or stories, which is rare.”

Jason Garman, Comms and Media Manager, Oxfam NZ

These images were taken in Southeast Asia, South Asia and the Pacific for non-government organisations (NGOs) and United Nations agencies. They cover development/humanitarian issues including education, food aid, HIV/AIDS, micro-credit, organic farming, agricultural assistance, human trafficking, water and sanitation, opium eradication, housing, deforestation, alternative energy and climate change.

My clients include non-profits such as Oxfam, Save the Children, Care, ChildFund, WaterAid, Marie Stopes, UNICEF, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Food Programme (WFP),  Netherlands Development Organisation, Habitat for Humanity, GTZ and Mine Advisory Group (MAG). I often draw on my experience as a journalist to do interviews and write cases studies, as well as shoot and edit HD video.

Our vision is a world where everyone, everywhere has safe water, sanitation and hygiene.
